Overlooking the Dead sea is mythical mount of Massada, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At first conceived as a fortress by the Jewish Maccabi during the 2nd century B.C. it later became Herod's winter Palace and fortress exhibiting the fantastic architectural achievement of the king of Judea during roman times. We will visit the outstanting northern Palace and discover the genious creative way Herod found to bring fresh water to the barren mountain for drinkig but also for the hot baths. Massada is where the last act of the Great Revolt took place in 73 AC when the Jewish rebels faced the huge roman army with an tragic and heroic climax.
The site of Qumran lies on the border of the northern seashore where the mysterious Dead Sea Scrolls where kept from light and humidity during 2,000 years within special jars until discovered by accident in caves close to the site. For a time linked to the Essenians who were really the members of the mysterious community of Qumran? What did they do there in such environment and what did they write? For nature lovers a walk in the Ein Gedi National Park in the Judean desert where the Bible tells about David hiding from the King Saul's anger.
